About us

In the years 1968/69 Vinzenz and Martha Hölbling built a farm with 3 guest rooms and a small snack buffet with 20 seats. At that time there were 4 ski lifts directly at the house. On January 18, 1970, the "Schlossbuffet" (as the inn was called at that time) was opened. Shortly after Vincent fell ill with Parkinson, which meant a difficult time for Martha and her 5 children. Franz Hölbling, who was supposed to take over the business later, had learned his profession as a cook & waiter and worked abroad for several years before returning to Nauders in 1982. The same year the inn was rebuilt for the first time and supplemented with 20 additional seats and a guest room. In addition, the name of "Schlossbuffet" was changed to "Gasthof Martha".

After Vinzenz died in 1988, Franz Hölbling officially took over the inn. This was followed by the first major investment: the first après ski bar in Tyrol! At first ridiculed and then developed into a big trend, nowadays après ski belongs as an integral part to any ski resort. In 1994, the large renovation followed and the inn was extended to 42 beds, 75 restaurant seats and a dining room for guests and a spa. In 2017, the inn was expanded again, the dining room renewed and enlarged, 6 new guest rooms (2 of them wheelchair accessible) were built as well. Today, three generations are in the family business, which is lovingly and passionately run by Franz and Rebecca Hölbling. To our great joy, our grandmother Martha (* 1929) is still fit, likes to chat with the guests and tells us stories from the past. We are also pleased and proud that our daughter Julia is involved in the business with much joy and motivation.
